Photography as Muse
“Behind every painting of mine there is a photograph. Sometimes some slight intrigue, a shadow, perhaps the light, a nuance of mood, or a detail of architecture found in a photo, prompts a painting. Often the painting while searching for its own identity, leaves the photo behind embarking upon a totally unexpected journey of its own.
My photographs from travels, my morning walks, old photos found here and there have always been a central part of my process, a process of one step removal from the world at large and down into my basement studio. As sometimes happens, the process being the photo, is where the art can also be found, standing on its own or through the
