Arctic
“Throughout my career, my travels and interest in the Arctic have woven in and out of my work. While I am most known for my portraits of isolated houses, often windowless residing alone in a world with landscape as a backdrop, it is my love of the Arctic that I often return to. Like the houses, the icebergs and floaties stand alone in their world, a world of ice that is swiftly disappearing. My Arctic work explores tourism, climate, plastics, and the choices that we make. My use of props, floaties, and slides address and bemoan how our fragile landscapes are becoming playgrounds in the Arctic and at home where I paint, knowing all the while,
that I too am a tourist, a painter, and a voyeur.” – Joan P. Albaugh
