Island

Island

“Thirty plus years ago, I moved to Nantucket with my young son. The island with its light and quiet seasons offered me a sense of place while its beauty, open spaces, and the surrounding sea provided backdrops for my paintings. And like everything everywhere, though not always all at once, things change. And like many places, climate change, erosion, and development are altering where we live and build as money, landscaping, and tourism affect and tame our fragile and once wild landscapes.

Though this island is often associated with entitlement, it is its strong sense of community, its diversity, and its beauty that keep me here. This series of paintings reflect my island experience here and sometimes afar. The light, the great outdoors, and my daily morning walks all converge as a story on canvas about this island that I call home.”
