Houses
“My Paintings are self-portraits. I paint and photograph about who I am, who we are, our relationships to our environment and to the world at large. Through paint and my chosen image, be it a house, an iceberg, a floatie, or a snorkeler, I search with a soft voice to make sense of our changing world.
My houses, often windowless and isolated, are staged as portraits with painted backdrops of sometimes mountains and sometimes sea. Often set in strong light, the houses reside in a staged world filled with quiet mystery with
undercurrents of forgotten dreams lingering in the corners of the canvas. And while I sometimes follow a different road away, I always return home or so it seems.” – Joan P. Albaugh
